KELSET Naturescape Team

Naturescape Project

When we moved to our new school three years ago, we formed a Naturescape Committee. We had a blank slate to work with. A few dedicated parents, teachers, our administator, and a couple of folks from the Habitat Aquisition Trust (HAT) got together to discuss the possibilities of a Naturescape garden. Our vision was to create a school ground that gave students ample opportunities to play in natural settings and also to grow food. We brainstormed with the kids and got them to design a plan. We had 'work parties' with the students, parents and community at large. Farmers nurseries, and HAT donated soil and plants. Many parents donated their expertise, tools and machinery. Our school district and municipality provided mulch and irrigation. And the kids helped every step of the way. This was a perfect example of community working together.
